Innovation

Developing and sustaining our competitive advantage is essential to maintain our position as a leading utility contractor in the UK.  We need to be able to anticipate changes in the markets and to adjust to changes in client requirements and amendments to legislation.  We need to be forward thinking and innovative to maintain our competitive advantage.

The successful identification, development, and implementation of new ideas leads to further improvements in our business and whilst we look to the wider market for new innovations and improvements in practice and process, we also encourage our best resources- our people, to tell us of any innovative ideas or suggestions they have that may influence our business.

We do this through the i2i Cycle – Innovate to Improve.

The Innovate to Improve (i2i) cycle is designed to encourage staff to promote an idea or innovation which they have thought of.  Providing the idea supports one or a number of our seven business targets, all ideas are welcome and are assessed by an elected panel.

The seven business targets are:

  • safety improvements
  • reduce cost/increase profit/improve cashflow
  • improve customer/client service
  • business growth
  • reduce environmental impact
  • improve company image
  • improve employee experience

Innovation is not just about ideas; but how we capture best practice internally and extend to our business.  By focusing on every aspect of our service delivery, innovation has become a natural part of how we do business.  It is also not just about technology; but includes how we undertake safety management, improve process flows, commercially incentivise our contract delivery and manage every aspect of service including customer, carbon and communities.
