How did you find out about Morrison Utility Services Apprenticeships?
I was already working for the business and was put forward to join the scheme by my managers- Mark Barber and Chris Stone. I was a unique candidate as I was 26 at the time and a fair bit older than the usual apprentice.
Why did you embark on an apprenticeship scheme?
It was too good an opportunity to pass up. It meant that I could continue to work for the business as well as learn a trade and gain recognised qualifications.
What is the best part about being Morrison Utility Services apprentice?
Learning something new and in particular, learning the skills for electrical and mechanical works.
And the worst part?
It doesn’t happen often thankfully, but being covered in some ‘nasty stuff’.
How do you find the balance between training and site based work?
It’s very good. College is very structured throughout the course where the site based work is obviously more unstructured with new challenges on site every day.
What new skills has the apprenticeship given you?
Definitely the technical skills needed to do the job. I have learnt to adjust to different environments and are able to develop good working relationships with a wide variety of people from colleagues to subcontractors.
What are your future aspirations?
I enjoy being on site so I want to qualify and stay in the industry in an on site role.
