How did you find out about Morrison Utility Services Apprenticeships?

I was actually already on an apprenticeship scheme and found out about the Morrison Utility Services scheme through the college I was attending.  I felt it would be a better option for me and transferred to complete my apprenticeship with Morrison Utility Services.

Why did you embark on an apprenticeship scheme?

I had left school, but wanted to learn and earn at the same time.  At 16 those choices are tough to make, but I sought advice through Connexions Direct and realised that an apprenticeship was right for me.

What is the best part about being Morrison Utility Services apprentice?

I’m thrown into the real world of work and it’s not just about college.  After the course I’m qualified, I know the technical stuff and I also have the practical experience.

And the worst part?

The on-the-job paperwork that needs to be completed every day as part of the work done.

How do you find the balance between training and site based work?

It works well.  The work studied in the classroom translates easily into working on site and the site work enhances the understanding from the classroom.

What new skills has the apprenticeship given you?

Definitely the electrical and mechanical skills needed to do the job, but it has also made me more proactive than I thought I could be.  I can use my initiative and can think ahead.

What are your future aspirations?

In the next 5 years I’d like to be a Supervisor with maybe a view to move onto Operations Manager by the time I’m in my 30’s.
