Training and development
Morrison Utility Services is committed to the active learning and development of all people involved in the Utility Services industry.
We have been recognised as an \"Investor in People\" for over 10 years and in 2007 were reaccredited for a further three years, to September 2010. Our commitment to the active learning and development of all our people involved in electricity, gas, water and telecoms is a key feature in ensuring we have the necessary skills and experience for our ongoing business success.
Our bespoke training programmes are recognised as the best in the business and have won industry awards. We demonstrate this commitment by offering internal and external accredited courses, which enable employees to enhance their existing knowledge, skills and development, providing the confidence to deliver results. Elements of our training programme are also offered to clients and other companies involved with utility services.
Development begins on day one. Our induction process provides new employees with opportunities to gather knowledge about our culture, history, policies and procedures. Induction also enables our new starters to learn about their role and responsibilities (within their selected field) and their team.
We promote the continuous improvement of professional standards with support for course attendance, books, examinations, course and professional membership fees. We are committed to developing the skills, expertise and competence of our staff responsible for the delivery of our service. The Training Centre staff are always looking for ways and means of improving and updating the service provided.
We offer our employees many personal effectiveness courses delivered through a variety of training methods including presentation, discussion, case study, practical exercises and role-play. We also provide tailored solutions to meet individual and team needs. We have worked with key strategic partners to develop many in-house management and leadership development programmes.
Morrison Utility Services believe that site supervisors should be the first port of call for safety on site. With this in mind, Morrison works with the Institute of Leadership and Management to train first line managers to an acceptable level.
The development review process aims to help the employee and his/her manager review both strengths and gaps in skills or experience; identify ambitions; create plans to build capability and ensure that the employee has the skills to meet their current and future business needs; and explore what programmes and other forms of learning will be useful. Guidance is available to staff and managers to enhance their development review procedures.
At Morrison Utility Services we recognise that there is an opportunity within our industry to ensure that we get the very best out of our employees.
In the past, resources in staff training had been varied and consequently non-standardised.
Faced with ever increasing customer demands, more competition and potential skills deterioration, a new way of thinking was necessary to ensure continued existence, constant improvement and future success.
In order to face these challenges head on, Morrison Utility Services took the decision to invest in its own Training Centres. We are now very proud to announce that our Training Centres are fully accredited and can run technical as well as non-technical courses.
The Training Centres cover a huge range of courses, suitable for all sectors of the utility industry, including courses on health and safety, deep excavations, plant and equipment. We also have specific courses that have been tailored to suit each individual sector so that all employees remain safe, competent, highly skilled and are able to deliver the solutions requested by our clients.
Our training centres are located in Risby, Suffolk and Cork, Ireland.
