In April 2008, the Western Gas Alliance was formed when Morrison Utility Services and AMEC signed a contract with Wales and West Utilities.  In 2013, the contract was extended for a further five years.

The contract is to carry out a major programme of gas main replacement and associated works across Wales and the South West of England.  The key aim of the Alliance is the delivery of 2,000km of mains replacement (420km per year) and to complete 40,000 customer gas connections.  The contract was extended in 2013 to 2018 and is worth a further £200 million.
