A gas sector first for bespoke Morrison Utility Services training initiative
Morrison Utility Services (MUS), the UK’s largest dedicated utility service provider, and part of M Group Services, has received Endorsed Training Programme status from Energy & Utility Skills for its Gas Network Site Manager (GNSM) Development Programme.
The programme was introduced in January 2017 to provide a structured career path from trainee level to GNSM Level 3 for MUS employees working on behalf of Wales & West Utilities.
A ‘Record of Achievement’, which incorporates recognised qualifications and certifications, ensures that suitable skills are developed for the requirements of GNSM roles within MUS and the wider gas sector.
The initiative was developed with two key objectives:
MUS Executive Director Sean Kelly comments: “This EUSR recognition provides our people on the Wales & West Utilities contract with access to a career path of nationally recognised qualifications which will provide transferable skills, logical career development and progression, and the ability to specialise according to talent.
“By allowing candidates to set their own training agendas within a regulated framework, we are providing a career path which has the ability to grow with the individual at a pace that suits them. Moving forward, this is the blueprint for the minimum standard for all MUS gas sector contracts. Our aim is to introduce the programme to our other gas contracts over the forthcoming year.
“The programme is significantly increasing staff engagement and is attracting new talent to MUS from the armed forces, competitors and new entrants to the industry. It offers a platform for our people to develop the requisite technical, management and people skills, as well as the relevant experience to take the next step into senior management. We are delighted to have secured this recognition from EUSR.”
