Morrison Utility Services has been named as the winner of the 2014 NJUG (National Joint Utilities Group) award for ‘Avoiding Damage to Underground Assets’. The award was presented in recognition of the company’s approach to the management of excavation procedures.
The announcement was made at the annual NJUG Awards held at the House of Commons on 19th November and hosted by Chair of the Transport Select Committee, Louise Ellman MP and Robert Goodwill, Parliamentary Undersecretary of State at the Department for Transport.
NJUG CEO Bob Gallienne commented: ““Avoiding damage to utility underground assets is a key strand of our NJUG Vision for Street Works, as the safety of workers, the public and property surrounding street works is paramount. Third party damage can also interrupt essential utility supplies and Morrison Utility Services’ multi-stranded approach to minimising the risk of utility apparatus being struck takes us one step nearer to eliminating unnecessary damage.”
Paul Kerridge, Safety, Health, Environment, Quality and Training (SHEQT) Director, Morrison Utility Services, added: “Morrison Utility Services undertakes more than two million street works excavations per year and, across our business, we are committed to excellence in the delivery of street works.
“We are delighted that our focus on the critical area of avoiding damage to underground utility assets has been recognised by NJUG for the second consecutive year. The potential for damage or injury caused by underground strikes is an industry-wide concern and this prestigious accolade is a testament to our work in this area.
“As ever, our aim is to raise the bar on best practice but we recognise that there is no room for complacency and we will continue to drive enhanced health and safety performance across all operational areas.”
