Morrison Utility Services has been named winner of the Cloud Innovation category at the 2014 Computer Weekly European User Awards for Enterprise Software.
The award recognises the company’s innovative use of cloud-based technology in order to optimise field team operations management, reduce disruption and improve customer satisfaction.
The deployment of cloud-based, mobile workforce management solution ETAdirect has enabled Morrison Utility Services to introduce new efficiencies to its highway reinstatement activities associated with utility services delivery. The solution ensures optimisation of delivery through intelligent scheduling and routing. Using data collected from the field, the solution determines the best match between tasks and resources, whilst providing vehicles with the shortest routes between sites to ensure that tasks are completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Jim Winnicott, Group Commercial Director, Morrison Utility Services, commented: “Highway reinstatement of an excavation is a surprisingly complex process that can involve 20 or more individual, often interdependent, tasks requiring specialist vehicles and staff with the appropriate accreditation and skills. ETAdirect enables us to schedule work according to specific criteria such as employee skill set, accreditation and availability, geographic location and work priority based on SLA requirements and highway authority notice end dates. This optimum approach to our field operations ensures that the right people are assigned to the right job, on-schedule and armed with the information required to complete the job effectively, efficiently and right first time.”
Since its deployment 12 months ago, ETAdirect has delivered several significant benefits including:
Brian McKenna, Business Applications Editor, Computer Weekly commented: “Using the ETAdirect cloud-based mobile workforce management tool has enabled Morrison Utility Services to take the complexity out of its highway reinstatement field operations, reducing travel time and fuel consumption and costs. It is a classic operations management problem solved.”
