Morrison Utility Services (MUS) has been nominated three times in the shortlist for the 2016 NJUG Awards.
In the Safety category, MUS is shortlisted for its in-house design and development of a lone worker app that provides operatives working in isolation with significant new safety measures (instant alarm system, reduced response times and faster assistance) in an emergency situation.
In addition, MUS is shortlisted twice in the Sustainable Methods and Materials category. The first nomination focuses on the use of smart technology and innovative new ways of working to support our environmental management and performance, whilst the second nomination focuses on the work of Morrison Fleet & Plant Services to improve driver behaviour and reduce driving miles to support the company’s carbon reduction strategy.
This year’s awards will be held at the House of Commons on 16th November and will be hosted by the Chair of the Transport Select Committee, Louise Ellman MP and Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, Andrew Jones MP.
The NJUG Awards have become a fixture in the utility street works and Parliamentary calendars and are designed to showcase examples of industry innovation with the aim of driving up standards and reducing disruption.
NJUG CEO Bob Gallienne commented: “I would like to congratulate those that have been shortlisted. It is vital that we recognise the good practice that goes on within the industry. With the Governments plans in regards to large infrastructure projects, increased housing and increasing traffic volumes there is a growing demand on utilities to undertake street works. This means that the industry must work even harder to minimise road occupation where safe and practical to do so, to make sure the UK Plc is able to perform to its full potential. The Awards offers the opportunity to recognise those that are doing just that.”
